    Amazon.com Product Description
Putting an end to speakerphones that clip sound, the Polycom SoundPoint Pro SE-220 features full-duplex performance, so everyone can both talk and listen simultaneously. This corporate-quality phone system offers two lines, caller ID (including call-waiting caller ID), and a 32-character LCD display. Use the phone as a speakerphone or handset, or attach a headset for hands-free conversation.

Although users who need larger-scale conferencing systems will want to look elsewhere, the SoundPoint Pro SE-220 competes well for its price point. Thanks to well-chosen features such as Polycom voice technology for crisp reception, 99-number call-history directory, 20-number speed dial, and any-key dialing, this model is ideal for typical conference rooms.

5 out of 5 stars Finally!!! Perfect desk phone for a home office...excellent speakerphone   May 19, 2010
    Jeff (San Jose, CA)
I looked at all brands, tried out a few, solicited Facebook and LinkedIn for recommendations before finally ponying up the money for this phone. Boy am I glad I did! The phone works great, is very easy to use, sound quality is excellent. I use it almost daily when I am not on the road and the volume control, mute button, dialing, and headset function are all as good if not better than my phone at the office. I strongly recommend this phone to someone who uses a deskphone in a home office at least several times a week. Conference calls are now much easier and higher quality, more difficult to tell that I am not in the office.

3 out of 5 stars Bad design and poor handset sound quality   May 3, 2010
    J.W. (USA)
Overall, the Soundpoint Pro SE-220 appears to be a well made phone. However...

However, the handset has been designed without a loopback feed from the microphone to the ear speaker. This means that you cannot hear your own voice in the earpiece. You can adjust the volume of the other person's voice on the line (the person you called or the person calling you), but not your own voice because the earpiece does not carry ANY signal from the microphone in the handset. This is true on the handset and also true when you plug in a headset into the headset jack.

The result is that you end up talking REALLY LOUD because you think your voice is not being picked up because you have no feedback to know how loud to talk.

I confirmed this with tech support at Polycom: "The volume adjustment is to increase the far end audio, and the phone does not have a loopback feed for the microphone."

Any cheap cell-phone or landline phone from Walmart incorporates a loopback element to the earpiece so you can hear your own voice. It's been a standard feature of telephones for what...the last 50 years? It's completely baffling that a "high quality" and commercial phone brand like Polycom would choose to cut costs by omitting the ability to hear one's own voice. It gives one the impression one is talking through a toy phone from Toys R Us.

This could be a great phone, but Polycom's poor attention to simple features like this make this a merely adequate phone. I suspect the same is true of the Soundpoint Pro SE-225.

I would strongly recommend considering buying another brand and model of phone.

4 out of 5 stars Great home office phone!   April 1, 2010
    Fjords (Dallas, TX)
This is the best speakerphone that I have evaluated for home office use. I spend at least 5 to 6 hours on the speakerphone each day and this phone does the job. The microphone and speakerphone are outstanding - digital duplex. People on the other end have no problem hearing me. Speakerphone is as loud as you want it to be. The phone almost seems to have improved the quality of the original telephone line.

Over the last three months, I have gone through several phones. Starting with the standard corded RCA, AT&T, and Panasonic phones. AT&T had the best speakerphone but people on the other line could hear me mute and un-mute the phone. The Panasonics were okay while the RCAs were a piece of junk - even their so called digital duplex model. I also evaluated the cordless DECT phones from Panasonic. They were decent.

Then I evaluated the business class phones from Panasonic and Meridian/ Nortel/ Aastra. Each one had their own flaws. My main criterion was to be able to use the speakerphone and ensure the other party could hear me clearly. The Polycom excelled at that; coming close to their business class IP products.

There are a few flaws in the model which is why it gets four stars:
    1. No backlit LCD - although it is still quite readable
    2. The key press tones are really LOUD with no way to tone them down
    3. The speed dial can only handle 20 digits - as such it cannot be used for chain or calling card dialing
    4. There is no easy way to look up missed calls

Despite these flaws, I would not hesitate in purchasing this model if you want excellent speakerphone and call quality.

5 out of 5 stars Great product   May 22, 2009

I have only had this for a couple of months, but it's worked out really well. Easy set up, good sound, good value.

    2 out of 5 stars Fails as a speakerphone   April 18, 2009

The phone itself is fine, but you get this for the speakerphone. However, when I got it, everyone says my voice is too faint (even though I am next to the mic). So I ended up using a headset, which defeats the purpose of spending the money on this phone in the first place.

This Polycom is not the same quality as those in corporate conference rooms (of course those units cost a LOT more).
