Amazon.com Product Description
The 974 from AT&T is a four-line corded telephone with powerful features and reliable operation. Caller ID/call waiting compatibility and multi-user expandability to 16 stations (compatible with AT&T models 945 and 984 along with other 974 models) provide you with plenty of options.

Four-line operation, intercom function, and conference calling help you easily manage call flow from several clients, colleagues, and customers at once. For the busy office environment, a built-in speakerphone and headset compatibility allow you to comfortably communicate hands-free.

The 200-name-and-number phone directory helps you keep track of your important contacts, and a 32-number speed dial lets you quickly dial the most frequently used numbers. Two hundred caller ID locations are also provided, and incoming call information and most setup features are easily viewable on the built-in LCD.

A new-message indicator provides a visual alert to any new voicemail messages, while the redial feature lets you easily dial any of the last six outgoing numbers. Two data ports are integrated into the 947, allowing you to hook up peripherals, such as a fax machine or modem, with ease. You can install the 947 on any desktop, or mount it on the wall to free up space. The unit also comes backed with a one-year limited warranty.

4 out of 5 stars phone   August 1, 2010
Norma R. Snow (DENMARK, MAINE, US)
Already own 7 of these phones and needed another for an office. This phone is the perfect for a small office. We use the 3 line system: has hold, dial memory and call history. A good small system for the money.

4 out of 5 stars As Expected   November 29, 2009

I purchased this phone to replace an older AT&T 2 line phone after I installed 2 more lines. This phone is well made and the buttons are sized nicely and laid out logically. It has plenty of memory storage for frequently dialed numbers. The screen is clear and easily readable. Most importantly, the sound quality is clear and the speaker phone feature works very well. All in all, this is a great phone that can be used as a stand alone or as part of a small office system. When more than one phone is used, the intercom feature become usable. If you are in the market for a small business system that works great, feature rich and at a nice price, this may be it.

This phone seems to get some pretty solid reviews, and I would "generally" rate this phone about middle-of-the-road.

It usually works OK, and we don't have a LOT of problems with these phones (we've got 6 of them), but those that we do have are deal-killers. Things to note:

1) The speakerphone REALLY WORKS VERY POORLY. That's something you'll see over and over in these posts. It actually seems to get progressively worse, until it simply stops working. You might not think that's a big deal, but I assure you, it is.

2) Poor ergonomic design. It's simply not well-built and ergonomically configured. You'll see that over and over in these posts.

3) The warranty service is ATROCIOUS. I hope you never have to deal with it, but if you do, I can tell you that you might as well just forget it and buy a new one for $127.

4) This phone is not compatible with ANY other phones, AT&T or not. You can't replace ONE of these POSs with a new one after it stops working after one year----you've got to replace ALL of them.

It should be noted that this phone is NOT actually made by AT&T; it's made by some no-name company that bought rights to the AT&T name.....SO, if you expect that you'll have AT&T support or back-up on this phone, you are completely wrong. This phone is made in Indonesia, and I'm reasonably sure that's where their customer service is handled.

2 out of 5 stars Lots of Features With Poor Reliability   December 17, 2008

Two issues I had were:
1. When connecting to a Vonage line, Caller ID did not work until after I completely powered down the phone, including removing the backup batteries.
2. The headset volume was always too loud even when the volume was set to the minimum setting. I had to hold the phone away from my ear.

The phone is full featured and seemed ideal for my small business, but it's going to get replaced.
